About the event
oin DC saxophonist Brad Linde and jazz researcher Bertrand Uberall in a celebration of jazz pianist and composer Freddie Redd at West End Library!
Best known for composing the music for Jack Gelber's 1959 play The Connection, Redd also recorded for Blue Note Records, and performed with luminaries such as Jackie McLean, Sonny Rollins, Charles Mingus, and Art Blakey.
In 2009, Linde & Redd collaborated on a series of performances at Twins Jazz in Washington D.C. and Smalls Jazz Club in New York City, after which Redd relocated to Baltimore. Linde collaborated with Redd around the DMV and beyond from then until 2013, ultimately serving as the musical director for the Freddie Redd/Butch Warren Quintet. Linde will be joined by Uberall for a discussion highlighting Redd's career, and their work convincing him to move to Baltimore. The talk will be followed by a performance of compositions by Redd, featuring Linde's quartet.
